Transportation

Senior Citizens and Disabled Adult Transportation

The Townships of Milford and Highland cooperate with the Village in providing transportation to senior citizens (age 55 and older) and certifiably handicapped adults who reside within our shared jurisdictions. Transportation is provided for medical (non-emergency) appointments, shopping centers, professional offices, civic functions, pharmacies, grocery stores, nutrition sites, and senior centers. Any certified disabled adult over the age of eighteen who cannot obtain a driver’s license and needs help with transportation to or from work may apply.  The application procedure takes at least two weeks for approval and notification to the prospective rider.

The Highland/Milford Transportation program owns two vehicles; a 14-passenger van and a paratransit wheelchair-lift equipped bus. Residents schedule rides through the Highland Township Senior Center at 248-887-4979. Riders must request service twenty-four hours prior to the needed service. Ride requests are accepted between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The van operates Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The fare to ride the van is $2.00 each way.  Low income passengers should call Barbara Rollin at (248-887-1707) to determine if they meet income qualifications for a reduced rate.
