VILLAGE OF MILFORD

REGULAR MEETING

September 2, 2009

PARKS & RECREATION

7:30 P.M.

Chairperson Brien Worrell called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. and determined a quorum was present.

PRESENT Chairperson Brien Worrell, Commissioners Dean Porter, John McDaniels, Ray Theriault, John Parks, Myles Davis

ABSENT Vice- Chairperson Jared Kresnak, Commissioners Jennifer Davis and Michael Allen

APPROVAL OF MINUTES Regular Meeting of August 5, 2009

PR-09-10 McDaniels moved, Porter seconded, to accept the minutes of the August 5, 2009 meeting as presented. Motion CARRIED.

CALL TO THE PUBLIC There was no public present.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS Master Plan

Commission reviewed the expired Parks and Recreation Master Plan prior to the meeting, and it was determined by all that it needed an update. Worrell stated that in order to apply for any grants, it needs to be presented in a much more professional manner. Everyone agreed there is no way it can be ready by March without assistance.

Worrell stated that the first step would be a public hearing at the November meeting.

PR-09-11 Worrell moved, Porter seconded to publish a public hearing to hear what the people of the Village would like to see in their parks for the November meeting. Written input would also be welcome. Motion CARRIED.

McDaniels recommended we ask Village Council for guidance with the Master Plan.

PR-09-12 Porter moved, McDaniels seconded, to ask the Village Council for advice. The current Master Plan has expired and needs to be renewed. If the objective is to improve our parks and services with the aid of grants, the Parks and Recreation Commission respectfully requests that the Village consider providing funds for professional assistance. Motion CARRIED.

Worrell proposed we start tonight editing and reviewing, beginning on page 29 of the current Master Plan. Commission reviews through page 37 making notes of changes.

Central Park River Edge Planning

M. Davis stated that funds for any planting are still unclear for fall. Maybe a meeting at the park would be a good idea. Perhaps a plan for spring planting with some assistance from the DDA, the Garden Club, or even Heavner’s Canoe Rental would help us out. We need a written plan with suggested plants to present to them.

NEW BUSINESS

BooBash

Worrell reminded everyone to meet and wear a costume on October 24 for the Boo Bash on Main Street at 5:00 pm.

COMMISSIONERS REMARKS

It was determined that the next regular meeting will be November 4, 2009. There will be no meeting in October.

Porter commented how great the Crit race turned out, but Sunday would be better.

Worrell is planning to contact the police to better patrol Central Park.

Commission discussed the Milford trail and the fact that it should not be closed to the public for outside events.

Meeting adjourned at 9:25 p.m.
