VILLAGE OF MILFORD

REGULAR MEETING                                                                                     JUNE 3, 2009

PARKS & RECREATION                                                                                          7:30 P.M.

Chairperson Jennifer Davis called the meeting to order at 7:32 p.m. and determined a quorum was present.

PRESENT     Chairperson Jennifer Davis, Commissioners Dean Porter, Myles Davis, John McDaniels, Ray Theriault and John Parks

ABSENT       Vice Chairperson Brien Worrell, Commissioners Michael Allen and Jared Kresnak

APPROVAL OF MINUTES       Regular Meeting of March 4, 2009

PR-09-06       McDaniels moved, M.Davis seconded, to accept the minutes of the March 4, 2009 meeting as presented. Motion CARRIED.

CALL TO THE PUBLIC

Ric Mueller, FOMSP (Friends of Milford Skate Park) presented to the commission an up-date on the project. He displayed a map showing possible sites for the skate park.  His plan is to send out invitations for June 20 (tentative date) at 10:00 am for people to come out and view the sites and fill out a quick survey with their preference.  He would like to pin down the desired location.  Once that has been done, the FOMSP plans to apply for a grant.  Mr. Mueller needs a current Parks & Recreation Master Plan from the Village to accompany his grant application.  J. Davis assured him that the commission will make that their top priority and asked everyone to do their part and that the Master Plan will be placed on the next meeting agenda. 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS           Central ParkRiverEdge Planning

A copy of the information that was received from a local company with recommendations for native plant edgings, was distributed prior to the meeting.

Parks reported that he got permission from Bob Calley, DPS Director, to plant a tree for Earth Day in Central Park near the water.     He planted a water loving tree and plans to get permission to do some plantings around that same area and to plant with the natural flow. Parks will be looking for volunteers and some low cost plants.

NEW BUSINESS                             Meeting Dates

It was determined that the next regular meeting will be August 5, 2009

Goals of Commission

J. Davis discussed that the Commission has no money but it still has the position of a recommending body.  There is a huge concern about the erosion of the rivers edge in Central Park and the Commission would like to alert the Village Council & DDA .  J Davis will draft a memo to them to advise them of the situation and tell them we are putting together some recommendations. She will email her draft before sending it to Village Council.

COMMISSIONERS REMARKS 

Porter and Theriault wanted to thank DPS and Bob Calley for a great job on the volleyball court.

McDaniels was concerned about the Village’s liability concerning the skate park.

Parks was pleased that all went smoothly with the transition to the new committee for the concerts in the park.
