VILLAGE OF MILFORD

REGULAR MEETING                                                                             FEBRUARY 4, 2009

PARKS & RECREATION                                                                                          7:30 P.M.

Chairperson Jennifer Davis called the meeting to order at 7:36 p.m. and determined a quorum was present.

PRESENT     Chairperson Jennifer Davis; Commissioners Raymond Theriault, Dean Porter, Myles Davis, & Jared Kresnak

ABSENT       Vice Chairperson Brien Worrell, Commissioners John Parks, Michael Allen & John McDaniels

APPROVAL OF MINUTES            Regular Meeting of January 7, 2009

PR-09-02       Theriault  moved, Porter seconded, to accept the minutes of the January 7, 2009 meeting as presented. Motion CARRIED.

CALL TO THE PUBLIC

                        There was no public present.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS             Ice Rink

Porter reported that the ice rink has remained a huge success this winter. The rink is filled on a regular basis.   There have been some very helpful residents but there is always a need for more volunteers. There is still a need for wood for the bonfires so if anyone has any it would be greatly appreciated.  The pump is working great thanks to the DPS.

M. Davis said he is going to meet with Ann Barnette, DDA director. He will find out exactly what she needs for her support & approval. 

Parks was not present with the 2005 Central Park plan that he was able to locate. 

Budget

J.Davis opened the discussion. Everyone agreed that funds for a banner were a must to identify the Parks & Recreation Commission at events.   The amounts of: operating supplies $250, special events $7000, advertising $250, and capital outlay $4500 were the amounts decided on to submit for the budget.  Capital outlay would be for picnic tables along the trail.

NEW BUSINESS                 Summer Concerts    

Worrell asked administration to inform the commission that he had been in contact with Janet Kinzinger, who informed him she no longer plans on running the summer concerts.

J. Davis said she will contact her.  After discussion it was determined that some of the commission should attend the next Township Parks & Recreation meeting on 2/9 at 7:00 pm., and discussion will continue at our March meeting.

COMMISSIONERS REMARKS 

M. Davis passed out literature to the commission regarding too much phosphorus in the river resulting in high plant growth.  He stressed the fact that everyone needs to use low phosphorus fertilizer, especially along the river.

Porter remarked that it would be great to have the Park’s & Recreation banner for the bike race in August.  He asked what everyone would think about using the Village logo with Village of Milford Park’s and Recreation above and below it.
