The Departmnt of Public Service staff provides maintenance for the gravity sanitary sewer collection system within the Village. The sanitary sewer collection system has 23.2 miles (122,700 feet) of pipe with pipe sizes of 8, 10, 12, 15, 18, and 21-inch diameter concrete, vitrified clay and ABS Truss plastic pipe.
A preventive-maintenance cleaning program is followed on a 6-week schedule in trouble areas of the system. Included in the collection system are four lift stations that pump the sewage from lower areas up to a higher elevation of lines that carry the sewage to the interceptor. The interceptor follows the Huron River to the Waste Water Treatment Plant. Several areas are serviced by smaller force-main sewer systems that use 1 1/2, 2, and 3-inch plastic main lines, with each home having its own grinder/lift station. This type of system is used in areas that are unable to access the existing gravity system because of elevation problems.
Television camera inspection of the underground sanitary sewer lines is also performed by the DPS. Problem areas are inspected for possible repairs, as well as for future planning for repair or replacement of lines. | |
