The Village of Milford has to contract out their Street line painting every few years. In researching prices this year we found Oakland County’s bid at the rate of $0.0125/LF along with a mobilization charge. The Village of Milford and the City of Wixom found that the City of Southfield received bids on April 11, 2011 from P.K. Contracting of Troy Michigan at a lesser rate of $0.0115/LF.
For the past four years the Village of Milford and the City of Wixom have bid out crack sealing together. The benefits of combining both municipalities are an effective means of controlling cost resulting in a savings to both communities. We would like to do the same with our line painting program.
We currently have approximately 99,000/LF (including the double yellow) of line painting to apply. P.K.Contracting is willing to honor the same price of $0.0115/LF that they gave the City of Southfield. There will be a mobilization fee of $3,500.00 that would be split between the City of Wixom and the Village of Milford. We along with the City of Wixom would like to waive the bidding process and use P.K. Contracting as the contractor for our line-painting program.
The Department of Public Service has contacted surrounding communities and received verbal commitments to work closer in bidding goods and services related to public works and infrastructure maintenance.
ACTION REQUESTED
Waive the normal bidding process and use P.K. Contracting for our line painting program at the rate of $0.0115/LF, along with half of the mobilization cost of $1,750.00.
